Some questions about the readings fish finders?

Hello, I recently bought the Garmin Fishfinder 400C. I have some questions about how to translate the readings. The manual I do not answer my questions below. 1. Is it possible to understand in which direction the Fish is the position? 2. Say I'm in a stationary position and if I'm on top of a shoal of fish how this could translate to the screen? Would it show as one long line, because the updates screen from right to left 3. How do I tell the difference between a fish and the object in the background? 4. Is there a website / book / DVD that shows you with details on how to translate the readings? Thank you

I'm not familiar with the Garmin 400, but the principle is the same with all the pollsters. 1.Fish (apparently) against uptide in a body of water that moves downtide. (Know the tidal currents in your area) 2.Yes 3.many pollsters have a function called white (or gray) line and lock down that help distinguish objects on the seabed and the fish just it.4 side. Not that I know.
