550t garmin

I think to buy an iPhone for geocaching instead of a garmin oregon 550T. Opinions?

Verizon Wireless and I do not plan to change my supplier. I do not intend to use the iPhone for a phone. I intend to use it a GPS unit, camera, MP3 player, video player, picture viewer, games, etc. ....., but I do not intend to use for a cell phone. The 550T from Garmin is the top of the touch screen handheld GPS online. It also has an integrated camera 3.2. I can take one of these for approximately $ 500.00, but I think I can get a cheaper iPhone and put it on the geocaching app and more.

They are slightly applications good enough to find a cache, but please avoid using a GPS phone to hide a cache. Several caches were hidden and then displayed with coordinates from a GPS phone combo led to serious errors in position. A close (for me) cache during the first shift, was finally fixed at about 200 feet from the list of coordinates. My phone has an application caching, but it is strictly a backup for when I'm in an area without a dedicated GPS and I want to hunt a cache and I do not think to use it to hide a cache. Another consideration: Most dedicated GPS units are much more robust and weatherproof as a phone. If you're hunting brush hides under heavy rain, a phone is probably not what you want to use.
