Can I contest this request from Budget Rent-a-car?
My rented a garmin gps with the rent-a-car budget. I returned the system with the car, but was in a point and did not realize I had to return the system to the counter and not with the employee who checks you are in. Of course, he mentioned none of this when I checked for me in the car. Now they say I have never returned and I stick to a charge $ 500 + for the system. I called customer service, but they only offered to share the burden with me. Can I do something prove that I have returned? Please help!
The short answer is yes, you can appeal. In fact, if you call the budget, they should give you the procedure to contest. Unfortunately, it can be to pay the bill, then filing a small claims court claims to recover the money you pay or take a hit on your credit until things are sorted. But the problem is ... you have no way to prove that you left the camera in the car. Did you sign something that says you agreed to return the device GPS counter? Ask how they budget follow their GPS units ... they have individual identification numbers? How do they know that this is not yet in their possession? If the budget burdens systematically GPS for people who are "lost" when in fact they are still used by the budget, they can get in a lot of trouble.
